|Lucy Smith was a 38 year old spinster when she married Edward Rue on 4th October 1919 in the Register Office in Bridgend. He was 50 and a widow - he had 2 adult children (with 5 grandchildren already and another 6 to come) from his first marriage and a 5 year old son from his second marriage. His marriage to Lucy was his third.|
At the time of their marriage, Edward was a farmer living in Trebethen Farm, Llanblethian and Lucy was a housekeeper, living at the same address, suggesting that she was Edwards housekeeper prior to marriage.
Edward's previous wife, Gwenllian had died on 5th September 1919, and it appears that her family took over the care of Edward's 5 year old son. It is not known whether Lucy had any involvement with that son at all.
I do not know where Lucy came from, only that her father was Joseph Smith who had been a farmer, but was deceased by the time of her marriage.
Edward and Lucy had a son, Arthur L Rue, born in 1924.
Lucy died in 1928 and I belive that the care of her young son, Arthur, then passed to her step-son, Thomas and his family.
Edward did not marry again but lived until 1951, the ripe old age of 85.
